Yaroslavl – Kanazawa: Five Years of Cooperation

The international conference “Japanese Techniques of Diagnostics and Treatment in Practical Healthcare of Russia“ was held on February, 11 2014.

It was dedicated to summarizing the results of a five-year experience of implementing joint educational programmes of Kanazawa Medical University and Yaroslavl State Medical Academy.

The conference was co-organised by the Department of Health and Pharmacy of Yaroslavl Region Government, Yaroslavl State Medical Academy, Kanazawa Medical University, Russian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education and Russian Endoscopy Society.

The Academic Council Hall of Yaroslavl State Medical Academy located at 5 Revolyutsionnaya street, city of Yaroslavl became the venue for holding the event. The conference was intended for endoscopists, surgeons and oncologists.

The conference was officially opened by Rector of Yaroslavl State Medical Academy, M.D.,Ph.D.,D.Sc, Professor Pavlov A.V. The participants were greeted by:

  • President of Yaroslavl State Medical Academy, M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc., Professor, Academician of Russian Academy of Sciences Novikov Y.A.;
  • Head of Russian Endoscopy Training Centre, M.D., Ph.D. Kashin S.V.;
  • Head of the Endoscopy Centre of Kanazawa Medical University Hospital Professor Tohru Ito;
  • Advisor of Japanese - Russian Medical Cooperation Fund Izumi Kadoya;
  • Rector of State Educational Government Financed Institution of Further Professional Education of the Russian Federation Ministry of Health, M.D., Ph. D. in Medical Science, D.Sc., Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Moshetova L.K.;
  • Head of the Endoscopy Chair of State Educational Government Financed Institution of Further Professional Education of the Russian Federation Ministry of Health, M.D., Ph.D. in Medical Science, D.Sc., Professor Nechipay A.M.

The conference conveners were:

  • Head of Russian Endoscopy Training Centre, M.D., Ph.D. Kashin S.V.

The invited guest faculty included internationally recognized experts:

  • Professor of the University of Fukui International Centre Karpova S.V. (Fukui city, Japan);
  • Head of the Endoscopy Department of State Scientific Centre of Coloproctology, M.D., Ph.D. in Medical Science, D.Sc., Professor Veselov V.V. (Moscow);
  • Senior Fellow of the Federal State Budgetary Institution N.N. Blokhin’s Russian Cancer Research Centre, M.D., Ph.D. in Medical Science Burdyukov M.S. (Moscow).

At the start of the conference Professor Pavlov A.V. presented a report on history of setting up the Endoscopy Training Centre of Yaroslavl State Medical Academy and informed the audience about the results achieved by the centre in its five years work.

There was a session of lectures on the latest techniques of Endoscopy diagnostics and early gastric cancer treatment, complications and outcomes as well as Endoscopy computerized system of predicting histological diagnosis in gastric cancer screening.

Professor Tohru Ito shared his longstanding experience of minimally invasive treatment of gastric cancer. He made a report on up-to-date possibilities of endoscopic early gastric cancer removal as well as oncological evidence of its efficacy.

Members of the Endoscopy Department of Yaroslavl Regional Cancer Hospital presented reports dedicated to the Department’s achievements and staff personal advances in Endoscopy diagnostics and treatment of precancerous pathology and early gastric cancer that became possible owing to the expertise gained at Kanazawa Medical University.

The conference ended with the report of Ukrainian colleagues who shared their experience in integrating endoscopic technologies into abdominal oncosurgery.

About 100 health practitioners from Yaroslavl and other regions of the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Japan took part in the conference work.
